Citizens Advice Cardiff and Vale is working in partnership with the National Trading Standards Scams Team to identify ‘community connectors’ to help raise awareness of scams within our local communities.

We all know that scams are a growing problem which costs our communities billions every year, and there are many individuals within our communities who do not receive any scams prevention messaging.

With this in mind, our pilot project with Trading Standards aims to increase community resilience to scams by developing a ‘community connector’ model which can be used at a local level to help deliver scams awareness massaging more deeply into local communities.

The pilot will identify ‘community connectors’ (individuals or organisations) who will communicate national messages through their own communication channels, including social media and local newsletters. ‘Community connectors’ can be individuals, charities, businesses or community groups, and there are ways for everyone to get involved on a small or large scale.

Organisations wanting to get involved in the project to share information with their service users and/or communities, will need to pledge to help raise awareness of scams. This could be by:

  • Nominating a member of staff to become a SCAMchampion so they can deliver scams awareness sessions internally
  • Provide customers or clients with scams awareness resources and signpost them to the relevant support agencies if needed
  • Promote scams awareness messages on your social media
  • Put up posters in your workplace

Please note that all resources are FREE.
